• Protect Microsoft 365 data • Guarantee recovery from a ransomware attack
Founded in 1645, Cheam School is a mixed preparatory school for 350 pupils just outside Headley, on the border of Hampshire and Berkshire. Former pupils include the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Edinburgh.
Transitioning Cheam School’s ageing IT infrastructure to the cloud was a major priority for Adam Hynes, Director of Digital Learning.
Taking up a recommendation from IT service provider RivaNET to use Redstor’s smarter, safer data management platform has allowed him to do that effortlessly and securely. Adam said: “We are increasingly cloud orientated. We have surface devices for pupils and staff using OneDrive and Teams. Although some server equipment on site is still used by some devices, we are moving more and more towards Microsoft as a one-stop solution.
“Having less reliance on onsite hardware is a priority because we won’t have to worry that kit is going to go wrong in years to come.” Adam, though, knows Microsoft cannot ensure Cheam School is protected from accidental or malicious deletion of 365 data – or a ransomware attack. He said: “We lost data in OneDrive – and Microsoft's built-in tools only mitigated that to a point. Our increased use of Teams heightened the need for the right backup solution."
Redstor’s true cloud-to-cloud protection has already saved Cheam's Director of Digital Learning time and given him peace of mind. Adam said: “Had we not already asked RivaNET to deploy Redstor, I’m sure the first lockdown would have forced that decision on us very quickly.
"During the lockdown the school created a Wellbeing Team for the pastoral welfare of pupils. When we wanted to retire that Team and replace it with another, Redstor made it very quick and easy to grab the data and put it in the new Team. “When files have corrupted, we’ve also been able to roll back quickly to previous versions. That has been really positive. Having 100% reliability of all that 365 data has been a major win.”
